Billing Policy

Who is eligible for bulk billing?

All children under the age of 16 with a current Medicare Card and all patients who hold one of the following:

· Pensioner Card/Health Care Card

· Commonwealth Seniors Card

· Veterans Gold Card

Potential out of pocket expenses still may occur for some services.

To deliver and maintain the high quality of health care provided at Peel Connolly Medical Centre, we are unable to bulk bill all consultations. Payment is required at the time of consultation using EFTPOS, cash or cheque.

Short consult................ $60....... M/C Rebate $16.95

Standard consult.......... $75....... . M/C Rebate $ 37.05      

Long consult................ $105..... M/C Rebate $71.70

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

Please cancel unwanted appointments with a minimum 2 to 4 hours notice. Patients who continually fail to attend their appointments will be charged a $33 cancellation fee, which must be paid prior to booking your next appointment.

TELEPHONE ACCESS

GP’s in the practice may be contacted during normal visiting hours regarding urgent medical enquiries. Your call will be put through to our practice nurse and she will liaise directly with your GP. In an emergency, your call will always be put through to your GP. All request made via e-mail will be forwarded to the appropriate GP.

ELECTRONIC COMMINICATION

Patients can request our written policy on receiving and returning electronic communication.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

Repeat medication is medication that you are required to take continually, the GP will advise you in your consultation if your medication is on “repeat”.

Patients requesting repeat medications without an appointment, need to present their “Green Script Book” that contain three patient identifiers, plus their list of medications inside. No patient repeat script orders are taken over the phone and in the case of  Authority Scripts, lost scripts or scripts that fail the compliance test, an appointment will need to be made.

The cost to the patient is $10 with a 24 hour turnaround. When picking up repeat scripts care is also taken to correctly identify the patient.

Under the Medicare Act and also due to legal constraints, repeat prescriptions can only be issued after a patient has been seen and reviewed by a treating physician.

RESULTS-RECALLS-REMINDERS

Results

Patients are required to return for a consultation to obtain test results. If ant results are abnormal and or require urgent attention we will contact you. To facilitate this, please make sure reception has your current phone number and address details when booking or on settling your account.

Recalls

The Clinic has a policy to recall patients if the doctor has raised any concern or most commonly to discuss test results. This is part of our commitment to your health needs and from time to time you may also receive health reminders offering you preventative health services. Please advise us if you do not want to be a part of this service.

Reminders

The clinic may routinely send you reminders regarding your health checks, preventative health screening and also advice on any new health updates that maybe relevant to you and your family. Please notify the staff if you do not wish to receive these reminders.

REFERRALS

Higher Medicare rebates are available for specialist’s services if you are referred by your GP. This ensures your specialist is made aware of any relevant information that may be needed to assist in your care.

Please ensure that you check with your specialist’s secretary whether your referral is current or not when you make your specialist appointment. If not please make an appointment to see your doctor prior to your specialist appointment.

Medicare does not allow referrals to be backdated.

PRACTICE PRESCRIBING POLICY

This practice has policies and procedures to identify individuals who are “Doctor Shopping”

This policy exists to care for and for the protection of patients, community and doctors. Please do not be offended if your request is refused and you are asked to make an appointment with your doctor.

All of our staff have been trained to treat our patients with respect and courtesy whatever their requests. Similarly we ask for respect and courtesy from our patients.

When prescribing medications the doctors take all reasonable steps to ensure a continued medical need exists. We do not prescribe to support drug dependence.

It’s the patients responsibility to give a complete and accurate medical history to the doctor.
